Video Transcript for 2-5/16" Hitch Ball Review

Today we'll be taking a look at part number 63847. This is the Tow Ready hitch ball with the of 2 5/16 inch diameter and a medium shank, rated at 7500 pounds. The diameter of our shank is right at an inch, and the length of our shank is 2 1/8 long. This is going to fit ball mounts with a thickness of 3/8 of an inch to 7/8 of an inch. It has this nice strong finish which is going to help it stand up against the elements, and again it's rated at 7500 pounds. We'll go ahead and show you how it is installs. What you do is you take your ball mount and take your ball.

Slide it through the hole. Put on the lock washer and secure it with the knot. Now, you will want it to be sure to go and twerk it down to the manufacturer's recommendations. Once we would have that finger tight, what you do is you take your inch, secure it here at the holds. Take another inch and twerk it down to the specifications from the manufacturer.

Now, it's going to complete today's review of part number 63847, the hitch ball from Tow Ready. .

  • Recommended Trailer Mounted Bike Rack For A-Frame Trailers
If you add a dual receiver adapter like the Curt Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter, 8" Extension # D-192 to your Toyota Tacoma, it will not only add the tongue weight, but will reduce your hitches tongue weight capacity by 50%. I recommend going with the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier for A-Frame Trailers - 2"-100 lbs # CC-275 which will allow you to use your current rack, and will add that trailer tongue weight, but will not reduce your hitch's tongue weight...

  • Trailer Towing Setup Recommendation for 2014 Buick Enclave
You are on the right track! The Draw Tite hitch part # 75528 is a confirmed fit for your 2014 Buick Enclave as well as the trailer wiring kit # 118270. The wiring mount part # 18144 will also give you a place to mount the 4-way that bolts to the bumper. The ball mount part # C45036 that you referenced is would also work well if you need 2 inch drop. I attached a help article that details how to pick out a ball mount drop as well.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Chucking, Jerking, and Tugging on Light Utility Trailer Carrying Two ATVs
I believe that I can help you with the tugging you are experiencing. First, consult your vehicles owners manual for the towing capacities and recommendations, and to make sure you are not exceeding those capacities. Next, there is a formula you can use to determine the best place for your axles. If your tongue weight is less than 10 percent of the gross trailer weight you will first determine what 10 percent of the tongue weight is. 180 pounds is what you will need. Subtract the actual...

  • What Hitch Ball Does Blue Ox Weight Distribution System Use?
For the weight distribution hitches from Blue Ox that have a gross towing weight of 20,000 lbs, # BXW2000 and # BXW2003 you only need a hitch ball with either a 1" or 1-1/4" diameter shank. For a 2" hitch ball you can use # 63845 and for a 2-5/16" hitch ball you can use # 63847. To put it on the system, you only need to slide the ball into the hitch head and tighten it. If you go to 5:45 of the linked video review you can see exactly how to install the hitch ball.

  • Determining Correct Ball Mount or Draw Bar for your Vehicle and Trailer Combination for Level Towing
To find the correct ball mount you want to measure from the inside top opening of the receiver on your truck to the ground. Then you want to measure the trailer from the bottom of the coupler to the ground when the trailer is level. The difference between those two measurements will give you the proper rise or drop for your application. I've attached an article to assist. If you don't want to use a fixed mount, or if you pull different trailers, you may want to consider an adjustable...

  • Parts Needed to Complete Towing Package on 2020 Land Rover Defender D110 with Factory Towing
Unfortunately we do not have towing components like a hitch or wiring that have been confirmed to fit on the 2020 Land Rover Defender yet, but if your vehicle came with the towing package included you should already have a hitch and wiring present though. If you actually just need a ball mount and hitch ball that fit into the receiver, then it looks like the D110 comes with a 2" receiver. For that I recommend starting with something like the Curt # C45230, which can be used for trailers...

  • How To Choose the Correct Weight Distribution System for a 5000 lb Trailer Towed by a 2010 Liberty
The key to choosing the correct weight distribution system is knowing the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow. Keep in mind that anything loaded behind the rear axle of your 2010 Jeep Liberty will contribute to the tongue weight as well. I would recommend choosing a system that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the tongue weight of your trailer with its heaviest load. We know that the tongue weight of your trailer must stay under 500...

  • Can the Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount Be Set to Have Zero Rise?
Yes, Troy you are absolutely correct. You can set the Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount item # C45901 to have zero rise or drop. Essentially making the ball mount level. This ballmount does not include a hitch ball. Depending on your coupler size you will either need a 2" Hitch Ball item # 63845 or a 2-5/16" hitch ball item # 63847.

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer that Weighs 4,000 lbs
Typically tongue weight for a travel trailer is right at 10 percent of the total trailer weight and sometimes up to 15 percent. So for a 4,000 lb trailer you'd most likely have a 400 lb tongue weight but could possibly have a 600 lb tongue weight. The great news is that the Husky Centerline kit part # HT32215 has a tongue weight range of 400 to 600 lbs just like what you'd need so this kit would work well for you. If you can find a scale near you for measuring the weights of vehicle you...

I have linked the written instructions as well as an install video showing a 2015 model year. • How to Add Sway Control to a Boat Trailer that has Surge Brakes
Typically you will experience sway from your trailer when the trailer isn't loaded properly. It is encouraging that your engine is mainly over the axle, but it would be best to verify that the tongue weight (TW) of your trailer is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer. A properly loaded trailer is your first step into reducing trailer sway. Since most boat trailers have a pole tongue you will need to use a pole-tongue adapter like part # RP58393 and a weight distribution (WD) system...

  • Can I Tow a 2017 Jayco Hummingbird 17FD Without a Weight Distribution System?
For your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a weight distribution system is not required with the light weight of the travel trailer. However, the reason why many would choose to use a weight distribution system on a trailer that is 2,900 lbs is to help control sway from crosswinds and passing motorists. Because it is a rented trailer, you may not want to deal with the additional setup or cost but adding a system like the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0450 will absolutely help with sway control and will...

I spoke with Gen-Y about the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount part # 325-GH-12001 and they informed me that it can indeed be used with a trailer that has surge brakes. Therefore, the up and down cushioning mechanism will not have any affect on the in and out mechanism of the surge brake actuator. If you need a hitch ball as well, you can use part # 40038 for 2" or part # 63847 for 2-5/16".

For your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 12K GTW, 1.2K TW # RP66560. This system is rated for total tongue weight between 600 and 1200 lbs. That total tongue weight is the loaded tongue weight of the trailer as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of your Jeep. Anytime your gross trailer weight is more than 50% of your vehicle's weight or if the rear of your vehicle sags when the trailer is hooked up you will want to use a weight distribution hitch. Since your camper weighs 2400lbs and is more than 50% of your 2012 Jeep Wrangler's estimated curb weight of 3760lbs, it is definitely recommended to use a weight distribution system. Good question. I checked with Curt because I haven't had this come up yet but unfortunately no, the RockerBall, part # C29FR, cannot be used with a weight distribution system. Looking at your pictures I think you have a Blue Ox SwayPro system, like part # BXW0753. If I'm correct then you need a standard 2-5/16 inch ball with either a 1 or 1-1/4 inch shank. Beyond that the choice is yours so part # 63847 is a good option for a a 1 inch or part # 63840 for a 1-1/4 inch.
